A filter press is a solid–liquid separation equipment widely used in industries to remove water (neer) from slurry or sludge. In the neeravi or dewatering process, the filter press applies high pressure to squeeze out moisture, leaving behind a dry cake of solid material. It consists of a series of plates and filter cloths arranged in a frame. When slurry is pumped into the press, water passes through the cloth and drains out, while the solids remain trapped inside. Because of its efficiency, reliability, and ability to produce very low-moisture solids, the filter press is commonly used in wastewater treatment plants, chemical industries, mining, food processing, and pharmaceuticals. It is one of the most effective and economical methods for industrial dewatering.
