A filter press is a batch mechanical device used to separate solids from liquids in a slurry under pressure. Slurry is pumped into chambers formed by filter plates lined with cloth; as pressure builds, liquid flows through the cloth, leaving behind a solid “cake” while filtrate exits via ports.
Common types include plate & frame, chamber, membrane (with inflatable membranes for drier cakes), and fully automatic systems with hydraulic or pneumatic controls.
